Welcome, and thank you for visiting Listening Works. My name is Victoria Armstrong, and I am Person Centred Psychotherapist working Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
As a Person Centred Psychotherapist I will help you to explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and worldview, so you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence. I will not judge you, no matter what you bring to the session. This helps build a trustworthy relationship in which you can feel free and supported to disclose whatever is troubling you. Eventually it will lead you to discover your own abilities and autonomy, so that you can cope with current and future problems.
To help you achieve your potential, when you come to counselling I will offer:
Unconditional positive regard (UPR) – accepting and valuing you.
Congruence - being honest and transparent in how I experience you and your world.
Empathic understanding – seeing your viewpoint as if I were you.
Life can be challenging in all sorts of ways, and sometimes it's a struggle to cope. People come to therapy for so many different reasons.
Often there's something in our lives that we're having difficulty dealing with. This might be a specific event or experience such as:
Bereavement
The ending of a relationship
Work stress
A traumatic experience
Regretting past choices
There might be difficulties you've been living with for a long time, and which never really seem to go away such as:
Panic & Anxiety
Depression
Anger
Low self-esteem
Trouble with Relationships
It can seem impossible to know which way to turn at times. Many people find it useful to have a space to share their difficulties, to talk about them and work through them with someone who listens. That’s what I’m here for. I am a Person Centred Integrated Psychotherapist with a degree from Sunderland University.
I am a member of The British Association for Counsellor and Psychologists. I offer bespoke therapeutic services either face-to-face video or by telephone from my private practice based in Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne to adults and young people from various backgrounds and cultures.
Don't hesitate to contact me to discuss or ask questions regarding my approach.
I regularly engage in CPD and supervision to ensure safe practice for myself and potential clients.

I practice in both Newcastle and Gateshead. Free parking is available.
I also offer therapeutic services by video or by telephone.
Initial consultation
Free, by phone
When you first get in touch I offer an initial phone consultation, to get some information about what's bringing you to therapy. This lasts around 15-30 minutes.
Assessment
Our first session together will allows me to get a better understanding of what you'd like from therapy and whether we may be able to work together. It will also be the first time we meet face-to-face, which can help you decide if you feel comfortable to continue the sessions with me.
Therapy session
£45 - 50 minutes
Each session of therapy lasts around 50 minutes and I offer these weekly and bi-weekly. There's no set number of sessions, as everyone who comes to therapy is different. I offer short-term and long-term therapy.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07443656515 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquiries are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
